Ernie Lintner is a U.S. Air Force veteran with 11 years of municipal and state law enforcement experience before joining the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF). Over his 20-year ATF career, Ernie held various positions including Industry Operations Investigator (IOI), Specialist and Acting Chief in the National Firearms Act Branch (NFA), IOI field supervisor, and training supervisor. He’s also a former FFL and SOT holder.
Ernie spent seven years with the FBI NICS Section, gaining in-depth knowledge of the NICS process, interpreting criminal history records, assisting the public, FFLs, and law enforcement with guidance on NICS denials, appeals, and the Voluntary Appeal File (VAF) process.
In addition to conducting field inspections of FFLs, Ernie has extensive NFA expertise including registration and tax requirements, trial preparation, and testimony. He’s also skilled in firearms classification and identification, as well as developing and delivering firearms-related education.
